Thank you. That sorted the web interface.
I also managed to get access to remote postgresql servers working.

However, the desktop interface still wants a login but the pair defined 
for the web does not work for the desktop.
Is there a similar setup for desktop? I cannot see one in the
pgadmin4/bin directory.
