Hello there,

I am new to PostGreSql and using it for the first time and need your
assistance regarding that. I have Postgresql installed as an included
software in MoteWorks. It is installed in C:/Program Files/PostGreSql.
I have an application that is logging the data into the database . I
want to write an application in C or Java that would retrieve a
particular reading from the database each and every time the database
is changed.

I cannot find any guideline regarding that and do not know how to
compile the sample applications I found on the net ( postgresql.com).
Could u please guide me as to how to compile and run those applications
in C or java that can interact with the PostGreSql database.

I am in midst of a project and completely stuck at this point , so
please help me asap.

Best Regards,
Vishal Bhatia

Hi

You can have a research on libpq which gives you library to work with C on
Postgres.

Let me know if you require further help

Hi

Just check the following link -

http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.2/interactive/libpq.html

You can find the inbuilt functions to fetch data from PostgreSQL using C as
frontend.

You can use any C complier such as GCC to compile your application just use
with -lpq directive.

What is the meaning of this on the install PostgreSQL v7.5?:

This is a pre-release version of PostgreSQL, intented for testing purposes
only.
Use at your own risk!

Thanks for its quick answer,

That is an old version of PostgreSQL.
"intended for testing puposes only" means just that. It is a Beta release. It is not intended/advised for a production environment.

If you want the latest release, you should use 8.2.5.

You must have got hold of a VERY old snapshot from somewhere..... as I
recall, what was once called 7.5 was a development version that went on
to be released as 8.0 a number of years ago - hence the warning.

Don't use it - get the latest version (8.2.5) from www.postgresql.org
instead.

Ray.

This is a mailing list specifically for pgAdmin. If you want help with
PostgreSQL you'll need to post to the pgsql-general mailing list.

Sorry I can't help you any more than that... :-)

Ray.

Issue:
I have downloaded pgadmin4 and I liked the main shape.
But at the query pane I tried to run a while loop script two times at the same session. At first run it worked and commited the result. But when I tried to execute second time on the sam session, at the messeage pane I got a warning.
Then I opened a new query pane and paste the script, then executed it worked without any problem. At the second attemp again warning.
You can see the problem at the accahtment.
By the way I used pagila dvdrental demo database  and I have a stream replication cluster structure on two separete VM.
The script I use as the following:
DO $$
DECLARE i integer;
BEGINi:=0;while (i<=10)loopBEGINRAISE NOTICE 'number %', i;INSERT INTO film_yedek( title, description, release_year, language_id, rental_duration, rental_rate, length, replacement_cost, rating, last_update, special_features, fulltext)SELECT title, description, release_year, language_id, rental_duration, rental_rate, length, replacement_cost, rating, last_update, special_features, fulltextFROM film;i=i+1;
END;
end loop;END$$;
