I'm new with postgress datbase..

I have started correctly postmaster, I created a database "primo" ...
Now when I try to start "psql primo" I receive the following error
"psql : FATAL 1: cannot create init file
.//base/primo/pg_internal.init.1179"

Regards

What permissions on base/primo?
seems that postmaster cannot create file in directory above.

It looks to me like you tried to start the postmaster with a relative
PGDATA path (something like "postmaster -D ."). Try an absolute
path instead.

(IIRC, PG 7.1 and later will accept a relative path, but earlier versions
don't cope. If you are indeed running something older than 7.1, it's
definitely a good idea to update.)

If "more.com" (not more.exe) in windos XP Pro is not installed in
WINDIR/system32 (WINDIR directory is usually after standard installation
called WINDOWS), You can it find on install disk in directory "i386" as
more.co_ - You shuold extract it with "extract.exe". You can use
"more.exe" from DJGPP (gcc project for DOS) too, when You have install
disk without "more.co_" (but it should be on this disk).
I'm sure, that You know this, but:
You If You can't call programs from WINDIR/system32 without call them
with full path (this is abnormal situation), put line into Your
"autoexec.bat":
SET PATH=%PATH%;c:\windows\system32
...and restart Windos

Greetings
Adam

2013-03-28 20:00:40 LOG: all server processes terminated; reinitializing

2013-03-28 20:00:41 FATAL: could not create shared memory segment: Not
enough space

DETAIL: Failed system call was shmget(key=5432001, size=118464512, 03600).

HINT: This error usually means that PostgreSQL's request for a shared
memory segment exceeded available memory or swap space

. To reduce the request size (currently 118464512 bytes), reduce
PostgreSQL's shared_buffers parameter (currently 14080) and/

or its max_connections parameter (currently 40).

The PostgreSQL documentation contains more information about shared
memory configuration.

7.4 has been out of support for a while.

This looks like you cannot allocate enough shared memory.
If there is enough RAM in the machine, consider increasing
SHMALL (or maybe SHMMNI).

Apparently, you have a 9.0-or-later psql trying to use a pre-9.0 copy
of libpq.so, because that function was added in 9.0. This would seem
to mean that you have (portions of?) at least two different PG
installations, and they're not staying out of each others' way.
Hard to say more than that with only this much data.

If this is a Linux platform, applying "ldd" to the psql executable
would reveal which libpq it's trying to use.

I don't see libpq.so in that list at all. Maybe you don't have it
installed, or it's not in the loader search path?

That depends a lot on your operating system, the way you installed PostgreSQL,
what exactly you installed where, and so on - details you didn't care to tell us.

Then it might be a good idea to hire somebody with a basic knowledge of the operating
system you are on, who could fix the problem for you.
