Bin zwar selber noch DAU, aber Tipp eins:
  -  mit ALTER TABLE tabelle COLUMN date SET NULL;
(Versionsabhängig)

Tipp zwei:
ändere den Datentyp von deiner Spalte date auf einen Wert, der
NULL 
akzeptiert (varchar o.ä.)
