we are a team engaged in the development of client/server
application using PostgreSQL and Java. we are desparately in
need of *latest* JDBC driver for one of our projects, the
one (driver) we currently use, is giving protocol errors.
can anybody help to identify a suitable driver?

I've been sidetracked lateley, but I'm devoting the next week to getting
the driver up to date ready for the beta freeze on the first.

I'm looking for jdbc driver that run with postgres 6.2.x
I can use the sun driver or there are specific driver?

I know they are in postgres 6.3.2 but I need it for 6.2.1

Second: I can use jolly character % and _ in my query in this version?

Thx.

I've got an archive of old JDBC drivers on my website.

Go to: http://www.retep.org.uk and select Download, and then PostgreSQL.

I've got drivers on there for several versions of postgres.

If it's inside a query, then it's dependent on the backend, rather than
JDBC - as JDBC simply passes it on.

I can use postgresql.jar or I must use jdbc6.2.1.jar?

The names on the site are just to define what version they contain. You
can rename the jar file into whatever you like, as long as the classpath
points to it, and all the .class files are inside.

:-) I did a mistake

I don't understand if the postgresql.jar run with postgres 6.2.1.

The jdbc6.2.1.jar file should work ok with postgresql 6.2.1 - I dug it out
of my archives a few days ago, so I haven't tested it for some time (read
a year or so), but it should be ok.

I've just committed (finally) some bug fixes to the JDBC driver:

Tue May 18 00:00:00 BST 1999
	- Just after committing, I realised why internationalisation isn't
	  working. This is now fixed (in the Makefile).

Mon May 17 23:40:00 BST 1999
	- PG_Stream.close() now attempts to send the close connection message
	  to the backend before closing the streams
	- Added batch support in the JDBC2, supplied by Yutaka Tanida <yutaka@marin.or.jp>
	- Removed the old datestyle code. Now the driver uses only ISO.
	- Removed some files in the postgresql directory still in CVS that were
	  moved since 6.4.x (DatabaseMetaData.java PreparedStatement.java
	  ResultSetMetaData.java Statement.java)
	- Internationalisation of the error messages is partially implemented, however
	  it's not enabled as it only works when the jar file is _not_ used, and
	  work needs to be done.

You may notice that the driver now supports Internationalisation on the
error messages. What this means is that if you are french, it will return
a french error message, and if you are english, it returns english.

currently only three messages are implemented in this way, but by
tomorrow, I'll have the rest implemented.

PS: I'm using http://babelfish.altavista.com to do the translations, so
it's not perfect. Anyone who speaks either French, German, Spanish or
Portugese may want to glance over it when I'm done.

This was something I've been hoping to include for quite some time, but as
always the solution was simple ;-)

Hi,
While compiling the jdbc driver I had the following error.

You will see that the SHELL you are using is important. Peter uses BASH. I
found that in teh Makefile, I need to add this:

***************
*** 16,22 ****
  JAVADOC               = javadoc
  RM            = rm -f
  TOUCH         = touch
- SHELL         = /bin/bash

  # This defines how to compile a java class
  .java.class:
--- 16,21 ----
***************

I'm reworking how the version handling is done, so with 6.6, this
shouldn't be a problem.

Question - I did not see any examples on how to scroll forward and

problem doing result.next but how do I implement something like

Is it possible?? or do I need to load all the records and work from

You need to be using JDK1.2. That provides the following additions to
ResultSet:

	prev();
	first();
	last();

I had asked this question before. I apologize for that. But can anyone tell
me how to set the path for the driver (psqljdbc1.5-1.jar) in Jserv (Apache)?

Thanks,

Zubair Saifullah.

Hi.
Is there any means of dowloading just latest JDBC driver from postgresql.org
without using CVS ? And if just 6.5.3 driver version is here, what about the
7.0 i heard about on this list ?
Finally, is there a way of using JDBC 2.0 core API and optional API with JDK
1.1.7 only ?

PM: Currently no. It's either by CVS, or the whole source in a tar ball
(try the 7.0 beta tar ball when they are released - tomorrow 15th?)

PM: I'm still working on getting the 7.0 driver done, but seeing that
I've had to re-wire the network in our machine room here, I've not had
chance to sit down in front of my home boxes for a week, let alone get
it ready to commit to CVS :-(

Finally, is there a way of using JDBC 2.0 core API and optional API with
JDK
1.1.7 only ?

PM: No. JDBC2.0 is a _core_ api of the Java2/JDK1.2 platform, and it
relies on features not present in 1.1.x

Which version of the driver are you using?

There's a problem with DatabaseMetadata.getTables(). As I'm rewriting all
the queries in that class on Saturday, this should dissapear in 7.1.

Dear all,
i have found a strange thing on rpm distribution of postgresql jdbc driver
versione 7.0.2 and 7.0.3:
JDBC specification say that "ResultSet.absolute( 1 )" is equivalent to
"ResultSet.first()".
With the postgresql jdbc driver found in rpm distribution this is not true:
ResultSet.absolute( 1 ) return the second row of the set.
I suppose that this problem happens because the Vector implementation of
ResultSet is 0-based while ResulSet spec is 1-based.

I have recompiled the jdbc drive from 7.0.3 source distribution and the
problem is disappeared.
I hope this help. Sincerely Massimo Luise.
