It is sort of possible in 7.2, as a function can return a cursor to an=20 interface language capable of handling cursors. However, implementation i= s=20 quite cumbersome, and I won't try to detail it here, particularly since tha= t=20 language and method have been obsolesced and would force you to re-write yo= ur=20 code when you do upgrade. If this feature is important to you, I strongly recommend that you upgrade = to=20 7.3.1 now. --=20 Josh Berkus Aglio Database Solutions San Francisco From olly@lfix.co.uk Sun Feb 2 22:12:01 2003 X-Original-To: pgsql-sql@postgresql.org Received: from localhost (postgresql.org [64.49.215.8]) by postgresql.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9FC8D4758DC for ; Sun, 2 Feb 2003 17:12:01 -0500 (EST) Received: from anchor-post-32.mail.demon.net (anchor-post-32.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.90]) by postgresql.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 224AB475843 for ; Sun, 2 Feb 2003 17:12:01 -0500 (EST) Received: from lfix.demon.co.uk ([158.152.59.127] helo=linda.lfix.co.uk) by anchor-post-32.mail.demon.net with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 18fSLK-000B8h-0W; Sun, 02 Feb 2003 22:12:02 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] ident=olly) by linda.lfix.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 3.36 #1 (Debian)) id 18fSLJ-0002dS-00; Sun, 02 Feb 2003 22:12:01 +0000 Subject: Re: From: Oliver Elphick To: "mail.luckydigital.com" Cc: pgsql-sql@postgresql.org In-Reply-To: <01c301c2cb04$a6f27350$c900a8c0@jax> References: <01c301c2cb04$a6f27350$c900a8c0@jax> Content-Type: text/plain Organization: LFIX Limited Message-Id: <1044223921.32648.551.camel@linda.lfix.co.uk> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.2.1 Date: 02 Feb 2003 22:12:01 +0000 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: by AMaViS new-20020517 X-Archive-Number: 200302/41 X-Sequence-Number: 11439 On Sun, 2003-02-02 at 21:47, mail.luckydigital.com wrote: > Can some one please confirm( with a plpgsql function example please ) > a postgres "7.2" function that can return multiple rows to the client. > > I've gone through the docs and can't find anything to support this -it > seems you can only have one return value or null. > > Yes i'm aware this it is possible in 7.3 - can someone please confirm > its not possible in 7.2 or provide me with an example of how to go > about it.
