Dear Colleagues,
I have been able to run the following query successfully on postgresl-
6.3.2 but unable to run the same in Postgresql-6.5.2. can anyone tell
me the error and why it is running fine in 6.3.2 but not in 6.5.2.:
select
a.offer_id,a.comp_id,prod_name,date(offer_date),ti
me(offer_date),
clicks,bidcount,ship_price,
ship_price_currency,ship_currency_unit,
date_part('day',age(expiry_date,'now')),
date_part('hour',age(expiry_date,'now')),
date_part('min',age(expiry_date,'now')),
offer_type from offer a, product
b,enquiry c where expiry_date>='now' and
b.prod_id = a.prod_id and
a.offer_id=c.offer_orig and bidcount<>0 and
offer_type='sell' and
upper(transaction_complete)='N' group by
a.offer_id order by prod_name;
Thanks in advance for the help.

If you group by a.offer_id, then your select list can't refer to
any other columns except as aggregate-function arguments. For
example, it would make sense to ask for min(a.comp_id) to get the
smallest comp_id out of each group of rows with the same offer_id.
But that group of rows doesn't necessarily all have the same comp_id,
so you can't expect to ask for unvarnished comp_id and get a well-
defined answer.
Before about v6.5, Postgres was fairly lax about checking for this
logical error (which is also a violation of the SQL standard), and
would in fact give you back some randomly-chosen comp_id value.
Recent versions detect the error, however.

Hello,
I'm in the middle of the migration process from MySQL to PostgreSQL and
I cannot understand why this query isn't working (in MySQL it's working
fine). PG returns: ERROR: Relation "_con" does not exist
This is my query:
SELECT
_CON.con_id,
_MOD.mod_ty,
_VER.version,
_YEA.year,
_CON.dri_id,
_CON.man_cod,
_ENG.eng_pow
FROM
db_data.mda_mod _MOD,
db_data.mda_mod_con _CON,
db_data.mda_mak_eng _ENG,
db_data.set_mda_fue _FUE
LEFT JOIN db_data.mda_mod_ver _VER ON _VER.ver_id = _CON.ver_id
LEFT JOIN db_data.mda_mod_yea _YEA ON _YEA.yea_id = _CON.yea_id
WHERE
_MOD.mod_id = '283' AND
_CON.mod_id = _MOD.mod_id AND
_CON.psd <= NOW() AND
_CON.ped > NOW() AND
_ENG.eng_id = _CON.eng_id AND
_ENG.eng_fue = _FUE.fue_id
I will be appreciated for you help.

Probably you quoted the table name when you created it so that it is named
_CON. However when you don't quote the name in later references _CON
is converted to _con which is a different name that doesn't match any
existing table.
This behavior is contrary to the spec (lowercasing instead of uppercasing),
but isn't going to change since uppercase names look ugly.
A good general rule to follow is to either never quote names or always
quote names.

Please make sure you get the quoting right regarding table
names. PostgreSQL will fold _CON into _con unless quoted
"_CON". So, it may be that you created the table with quotes
("_CON"). Now, in your query you don't use quotes and thusly
it is looking for a _con table. The simple rule of thumb is to
either always or never use quotes.

Karsten

Marek,
Not sure but, try switching the lines
db_data.mda_mod_con _CON,
db_data.set_mda_fue _FUE
with
db_data.set_mda_fue _FUE,
db_data.mda_mod_con _CON
so there query is:
SELECT
_CON.con_id,
_MOD.mod_ty,
_VER.version,
_YEA.year,
_CON.dri_id,
_CON.man_cod,
_ENG.eng_pow
FROM
db_data.mda_mod _MOD,
db_data.mda_mak_eng _ENG,
db_data.set_mda_fue _FUE,
db_data.mda_mod_con _CON
LEFT JOIN db_data.mda_mod_ver _VER ON _VER.ver_id =
_CON.ver_id
LEFT JOIN db_data.mda_mod_yea _YEA ON _YEA.yea_id =
_CON.yea_id
WHERE
_MOD.mod_id = '283' AND
_CON.mod_id = _MOD.mod_id AND
_CON.psd <= NOW() AND
_CON.ped > NOW() AND
_ENG.eng_id = _CON.eng_id AND

What does a 0 state mean? Failed? And a 1 state? Passed?

It seems question is not clear...
I could not determine what should be in column Attended, and based on
what should define passed/failed
But quick tip would be
SELECT name, CASE status WHEN 1 THEN 'Passed' ELSE 'Failed' END FROM
UserTable INNER JOIN result ON UserTable.id = result.user_id

That's MySQL (i guess), please join a mysql-list.

DB aside the query you are looking for is very simple SQL. The only real trick is using
SUM(case when status = 1/0 then 1 else 0 end
to obtain the proper counts.
Any reference materials covering table joining and group by will give you the syntax and examples needed to write your query.
The lack of response is because most people are not going to bother answering very simple queries that beginner reference materials cover adequately. Plus, you didn't display any effort in attempting to solve the question yourself; you can do this by showing and and asking what you did wrong as opposed to simply asking for an answer.
