Seems we should have a web site that shows our CVS logs in an
easily-readable form.

There are a couple of different queries that people would be interested
in:
* the full cvs2cl log between any two release points;
* the cvs2cl log from latest release to branch tip.
I do not think it's appropriate to stick this into the tarballs, as
there's an awful lot of noise in the logs (eg, docs tweaks, reverted
patches, trivial code cleanups); our practice of generating a condensed
release-notes page is a large public service in my eyes. But +1 to
providing a web page from which the detailed answers could be generated
easily.
BTW, cvs2cl (at least the version I use) works fine against a remote
repository, so it's not like Ray couldn't have gotten the answer for
himself. But a web page would be more user-friendly.

That would be a heck of a lot easier with an SCM that has a concept
like changesets...

Running cvs log throught src/tools/pgcvslog seems to work fine for me.

Should we include this as a bz2 file stored in the release / source directory?
I agree it shouldn't be in the tarball itself, but having it along side of it
would be okay ...

I would like to see it in HTML on a web site --- colorization is bonus

Have you looked at the web output on http://git.postgresql.org? I find this very useful for this kind of thing, and if it fits what we need, we shouldn't build another service to do the same thing.

Yea, great, just point to that. It even has per-branch links.

Have other people looked at this? It looks great. Shouldn't we link to
it from our developer's site or in the Developer's FAQ, but it is more
than just for developers so I am thinking it should be on the roadmap
page:
http://www.postgresql.org/developer/roadmap
And we should be linking to the wiki on that page too instead of my
URLs.

Yes, I wrote the conversion code to get it on the website.
But I'm sure the existance of the html version is accidental in some way :p

I think it would be nice to have bugs in red HTML and features in green
HTML, or at least the bullets.

It would be easier if the source document were not plain text.

I can actually do the markup easily --- the bigger problem is deciding
which are features and which bugs. Do we want to make that distinction
in the TODO list? ;-)
