Version 4.2

Dilbert cartoon
POSTGRES 4.2
The last ``official'' release of University POSTGRES. As of 1994, this software is no longer being developed or supported.

Before obtaining this software, you probably want to look at the POSTGRES Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list. You may also wish to consult the monthly digests of the POSTGRES mailing list archives.

oldpost
Old versions of POSTGRES. Provided for historical reasons, and because some of the unofficial ports are based on them.
contrib
Useful and/or interesting applications contributed to the project.
useful
Other useful documents and files to which the POSTGRES documentation makes reference.
unofficial-ports
Ports conducted by outside persons or organizations. Before fetching these, you should look over the unofficial port list.
unofficial-patches
Patches for POSTGRES 4.2, generated by various users.

POSTGRES does not come with a GUI query tool, but a very nice one called pgbrowse (based on Tcl/TK) is available from UCSB/CRSEO.

A free 4GL called Onyx supports the POSTQUEL query language.

Mirror-only resources

The following artifacts are produced by the postgr.esq mirror and are not part of the upstream archive at dsf.berkeley.edu/postgres.html:

papers/
Stonebraker et al. academic papers (1986–1995), extracted from doc-papers.4.1 and the postgres-papers bundles. Each paper is provided both as the original PostScript and as ps2ascii text for accessibility.
extracted/
Every source tarball under postgres-v4r2/ and oldpost/ unpacked into a directory you can browse without downloading. Useful for grepping offline or linking to specific source files.
mail-archive/
The 1991–1997 POSTGRES mailing list, mirrored as 64 monthly tarballs (1991.06.tar.gz through 1997.01.tar.gz) plus a single aggregated all-messages.mbox for grep / mail-reader import (3406 messages). See also the live agora-rendered archive at /m/legacy/.
upstream-snapshot.html
Bit-perfect snapshot of the upstream dsf.berkeley.edu/postgres.html index page (with absolute db.cs.berkeley.edu image references unchanged), preserved as a separate artifact so visitors can compare against this rewritten landing page.
manifest.json
SHA-256, byte size, last-modified time, and content type for every mirrored artifact. Also indicates the parallel R2 object path under r2:pgesq/legacy-archive/ for offsite redundancy.
