Hello. I am trying to get PgAccess to work on my system and I'm having
a few problems. Here is what I have done.

I have installed RedHat 5.0 on my P75, I did not install PostgreSQL from
the RedHat CD
I downloaded the lates postgresql source, compiled and installed.
postgresql now works fine. I can connect to it with psql.
I downloaded libpgtcl.so and libpq.so and copied them to the /usr/lib
directory
I exploded the pgaccess files into ~pgaccess
I then ran pgaccess.tcl and this was the output

Error in startup script: couldn't load file "libpgtcl.so: undefined
symbol: crypt
	while executing
"load libpgtcl.so"
	(procedure "main" line 3)
	invoked from within
"main $argc $argv"
	(file "./pgaccess.tcl" line 4682)

Please help, do I to define crypt or something?

Thanks in advance,

Matt O'Connor

Hi Matt!

I am not familiar with tcl and pgaccess, but in general to link
with C/C++ the library "libcrypt.so" must be linked into the
application. The libraries are in /usr/lib on my Redhat 5.1, I
would assume they are also present in RH5.0. I hope this helps

Peace
Peter

Matthew,

I did the same but I made a few changes:

1. Imposed the linux_elf template in the configure command.

2. Edit the src/interfaces/lipgtcl/Makefile to include -L/usr/lib -lcrypt at
the line that defines LIBPQ ie
LIBPQ= -L(SRCDIR)/interfaces/libpq -lpq   -L/usr/lib -lcrypt

3. This compiled the shared library libpgtcl.so.1 with the crypt object
resolved.

I had one problem which was apparently caused by the -O2 option of gcc. I
just
went back and repeated the compile (ie gcc command) with -O instead and
everything seems to be fine.

Another option would be to go into src/Makefile.global and edit the -O2 to -O
and compile.

I hope this is of some help.

Rgds
Gus

I have problems with pgaccess.

I configured the postgresql.conf with tcpip_socket = true and port =
5432.

After that I configured pg_hba.conf

host all all 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 trust

I restart the postgresql service and started perfect.

I open the connection, then It opens very well at localhost, opens the
database, but, when I try to see the tables, it's like their not exists.
I don't know, what's wrong. I can see them at psql, but in pgaccess, I
can't.

Please Help Me.

Thank you.

Are you running pgaccess from the local host?
Are you connecting to the loopback address (127.0.0.1) and not an external IP?

psql probably is conecting using domain sockets instead of using a network
connection, which could explain why it works and pgaccess doesn't.
