Subject: installing pgsql_perl5-1.9.0
Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2001 14:53:41 -0500
Message-ID: <3A562645.6501129@hotmail.com> (raw)

I am installing 1.9.0 of pgsql_perl5, but when I run "perl Makefile.PL"
as the postgres user, I get the following error :

[postgres@cr833060-a pgsql_perl5-1.9.0]$ perl Makefile.PL
Configuring Pg
Remember to actually read the README file !
OS: linux
Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good
Writing Makefile for Pg
Unable to open MakeMaker.tmp: No such file or directory at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0/ExtUtils/MakeMaker.pm line 756.

I am installing as the postgres user because the README file states that
steps 1-3 should not be done as root and also the user doing the
installation must be able to create databases.

I read in a previous posting addressing a similar problem that it could
be because the user (postgres) does not have permission to write to some
directories. I have used "chown" to make sure postgres can write to the
installation directory (/var/lib/pgsql/pgsql_perl5-1.9.0) and also the
directory in which perl resides on my system (/usr/lib/perl5). This
fix does not work, I keep getting the same error as before (Unable to
open MakeMaker.tmp...) Can anyone advise me on how to fix this
problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Frederick.
