It's not Gentoo that finds libpljava.so. It's the PostgreSQL backend. If 
you cannot make the dynamic_library_path appoint the location of 
libpljava.so, then something is very wrong in your setup.

I trust that you compile pljava using the 64-bit JVM on Gentoo? You will 
not be able to compile with a 32-bit JVM and then run using the 64-bit JVM.
